A structural glass penthouse in Wapping

Conservation area

To make the most of his roof-top terrace and the stunning views from the penthouse of this Thames-side wharf building, our client needed shelter from winds which blow up the estuary.

We developed two structural glass enclosures to be as light and transparent as possible, by integrating them with the glass balustrading, supported by a slim steel structure. One of these was to be used as a canopy for a partially open dining area, the other a fully enclosed and air conditioned gym. The terrace was completed with stone landscaping, fire bowls and a water feature.

Although located in a very prominent riverside location, our scheme was approved by the Tower Hamlet planning committee on first submission, aided by a series of sketch models and computer renderings.
